Rachelle Ann Go, 2 Pinoys win int’l acting awards for 'Miss Saigon'


Not one, but  3 Filipinos did the country proud again by bagging top honors at the recent Whatsonstage Awards, where Cameron Mackintosh’s megahit musical "Miss Saigon" won a record-breaking  nine awards.
Eva Noblezada, who plays Kim, won Best Actress in a Musical, while Jon Briones  (The Engineer) and Rachelle Ann Go (Gigi) triumphed as Best Actor in a Musical and Best Supporting Actress in a Musical, respectively. They were voted by the theater-going public.

"Miss Saigon" romped off with awards for  Best West End Show and Best Revival of a Musical, among others.
Still floating
Clutching her trophy, a grateful Rachelle Ann expressed her joy at the recognition and gave special thanks to her Filipino fans:
In her Facebook post, she was downright ecstatic: “I am still floating:) dream come true again... thank you Lord for this blessing... To everyone who watched Miss Saigon and voted, thank you for appreciating our talent. We sing for you every night and will not get tired of performing. The whole @MissSaigonUK cast is rejoicing!! To my family who is always there to love and support everything i do, i love you so much and miss you all! To my brother @oz_go for my outfit, you are the best! Everyone's asking about your creation, I'm a proud sister! Thank you again Whats On Stage Awards for this! Yes!!!”
Said producer Cameron Macintosh, "To have this amount of awards from the public is a dream. And both Claude-Michel (Schönberg, who wrote the musical) and I are incredibly humbled and thrilled. And to see so much Asian talent walking away with all the top acting honors is something I always hoped would happen with the success of the show."
Miss Saigon tells the story of a young Asian woman (Kim) who falls in love with an American soldier, only to be abandoned when he returns to the US.
The musical is ongoing at Prince Edward Theatre in London, with an extended run until the end of this year.
